Magliano Sabina thanks to its strategic location at only 50 kilometers from Rome and others locations of artistical attractions, it’s an ideal place where to spend holidays and visit nearby: Rome,Viterbo, Orvieto, Spoleto and Siena.

The Sabine hills in Italy, somewhat overshadowed by their more famous neighbours of Tuscany and Rome, remain firmly rooted in their traditional way of life. Despite the close proximity to Rome, Sabina is a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The landscape of the Sabine hills is more lush and green than you might expect. This area of the Rome countryside is a patchwork of olive groves and vineyards, dotted with ancient monasteries and medieval villages.

At only few kilometers from Villa Surya there is a little villages of great beauty Calvi dell’ Umbria (5 km) famous for its murals,Narni medioeval village, then Civita Castellana (8km) known for its ceramics, Viterbo (20 km), known as the city of Popes, medioeval city and its Terme, Soriano del Cimino, Civita di Bagnoregio.

Nature – Flora and Fauna in Sabina

Naturalistic Itineraries

As well as being countryside, the Sabina area also includes various protected natural habitats, parks and nature reserves. These areas include wetlands, forests, rivers, lakes and mountain habitats, all of which provide a haven for various types of Flora and Fauna.

In Sabina it is possible to see wild boars, porcupines (much bigger in real life than you might expect!) and different kinds of lizards.

Sabina is also excellent for birdwatching, with a wide variety of bird species including the Sardinian Warbler (whose name in Italian - l’occhiocotto - ‘cooked eye’, recalls the bright red ring around the bird’s eye), the nightingale, cuckoo, turtle dove and the fantastically exotic European Bee-eater and Hoopoe species. Golden eagles can be seen soaring in the skies above the Parco regionale naturale dei Monti Lucretili, in the South part of Sabina.

You can also spot plenty of interesting insects and other creepy crawlies – firelies, green shield bugs, butterflies, crickets, spiders and even scorpions.
